Furniture sliders are one of modern day's moving miracles. Before this invention was commercialized you had to have a crew of people if you want to redecorate or otherwise move your furniture around. And if you had a full bookshelf, entertainment center, or filing cabinet you would spend all day unloading it before it would be light enough to move. Nowadays, with furniture sliders all you have to do is insert four disks under your furniture and it is ready to move. Is it really that simple? Yes and No. The real answer is that it depends on the type of furniture moving sliders you get and what application you want to use them for.
When it comes to finding the right furniture slider, there are a few things you'll want to know. First off, you're going to need to get the right sized slider for what it is you want to move. These sliders come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and each one has a different application. For instance, there are small, screw-in disks that are great for permanently installing onto something like a deck chair or dining room table chair. There are also directional sliders that make moving really heavy furniture in one direction. Then there are the more common sliders like the ones you see on TV that are simply four disks that you can slip under your furniture which lowers the coefficient of friction making it seem weightless when you go to move the furniture. But even these come in different sizes and applications. The general rule of thumb is that the bigger the disks the more weight can be put on them. So if you're moving a king bed you're going to need bigger sliders than if you're moving around a Lazy Boy recliner.
You'll also want to consider the surface that these sliders will be used on the most. The normal variety is made with one side a hard plastic and the other side a gripping rubbery material. These furniture movers are great for carpets as the plastic will just move along the carpeted area. However, if you're thinking about moving across a linoleum, tile, or hardwood floor there are special sliders that are felt covered that won't pick up any dirt that happens to be on the floor and scratch the surface of the hardwood area.
